Wednesday we road bikes on the Hiawatha Trail system. It is on the Montana/Idaho border and quite interesting and very beautiful. This was the first tunnel out of 10 that we went through. 1.66 miles long, dark, cold, and spooky. It is on the rails to trails hall of fame. 7 sky high trestles, 10 tunnels, and a USA Today top 10 pick. This trail follows the Milwaukee RR grade between Taft Montana and Pearson Idaho. 15 miles long. Now along the trail they have signs of history with the railroad. This tunnel James is coming through is the most famous, St. Paul Pass Tunnel, burrows for 8,771 ft (1.66 Miles) under the Bitterroot mountains crossing from Montana, into Idaho. You have to have headlights on your bike or/and head……Very dark! Take a ride. Closest trail to most of you in NC is Va. Creeper. Great ride and we did it hundred times with our kids. If you have never done that one……DO IT!!!!!Hugs S & J
