This bridge goes over Lake Pontchartrain. Pronounced….paan-chuh-trayn. It can be a tongue twister. The lake is a shallow extension of the gulf of Mexico in SE Louisiana, N of New Orleans. The bridge is the longest over water in the U.S. It spans 27. miles and the first one was built in 1959 and then with traffic they had to build another side that was completed in the 60’s. The deepest part of the lake is 65 feet. I am not fond of long bridges over water but we were going to another town to check out a brewery and to a State Park to ride bikes. We found both, had a great ride on a 30 mile trail. The park was packed with all people having a great time out doors. Our GPS brought us home another way and yet another bridge!! One last day in the city today then we head to Mississippi. Have a great day and a great week!! S & J
